That's it. This article in CNN has pushed me over the top. Normally I don't weigh in (no pun intended) on current issues, but this one just has me laughing.
Nobody who follows the news can have escaped the brouhaha that has erupted over a fashion show in Madrid banning models with a BMI below 18. All of a sudden this is a very serious issue that warrants lots of reporters talking to designers and getting their learned opinion on the effect it will have.
What gets me laughing are descriptions like this one from the CNN article:
But the runways in Paris this week have been filled by girls with child-like figures and stick-thin legs.
"We don't see anorexic (girls). The girls are skinny. They have skinny bones," Lagerfeld told reporters after his show, which saw models parade out in tiny short dresses, barely covering their almost non-existent behinds.
Hello? News? All of a sudden these reporters have just now noticed that this is what models look like? And that it is a problem? How terribly, terribly daft of them. Surely somebody should have pointed it out before.
