I am involved with a local charity, SOS (Share Our Suzy), which aides breast cancer patients with all the unforeseen costs associated with treatment (like gas cards, childcare, prosthetic bras, etc.) that are not covered by insurance. Jenny Roper smiles at her fourth grade student Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 in downtown Augusta, Ga. Roper, a teacher at Lake Forest Elementary, has been in remission for less than a year. Thousands came out to support the 10th Annual Miracle Walk for breast cancer hosted by University Hospital. The three-mile walk raised thousands of dollars for breast cancer research. I also wanted to mention my good friend Katie's sister, Jenny, who is not only a survivor but an inspiration! She is a teacher in Augusta, Georgia and all of her students showed up to support her as she participated in a local walk to raise money for breast cancer research. She is truly loved!
