  • Pro or Con: Lattice

    Pro or Con: Lattice

So it seems to me that people are vehemently pro or con lattice. I think it can definitely look cheap or "sweet" or even resemble grandma's house. But I like the graphic pattern and think it can also be cool (in small doses). So I guess I am PRO. What about you?

I like it as an architectural detail (in small doses).

    House Beautiful

These is a ridiculous amount of lattice for me but I like the concept.
And if Domino featured it then it must be cool, right?

    Domino

It is better in tone on tone as a texture.

I like it in small doses (notice the theme?) like on these planters.

    Elle Decor

I like this take on Chinese lattice by Bob Collins.

And of course I like the oval cut out due to my mad circle obsession.

  • Are You Trying to Skirt The Issue?

Are You Trying to Skirt The Issue?

Well sometimes, that is a good idea...depending on your issue. I mean if you have something ugly to cover like a CPU/computer cords, recycling bins or stacks of magazines then a skirt is a good idea. Heck, you might even want to cover up the table itself! Much like I did in my dining room. Grandma's hand me down wasn't much to look at but it was the perfect size so I had my seamstress make a custom burlap tablecloth with a smocking detail at the top.

    Voila!

Love it! My youngest fan :) Then I got in the mail a packet of "thank you's" from the interior design class I spoke to at The Art Institute of Charleston! So nice!!!

  • NEWS: More on Tangerine

I was really happy to hear that a new restaurant is coming to the downtown 'hood.
Tangerine by chef Aimee Schulhauser of Evolution Catering will be a welcome addition to the strip of shops on 14th Avenue next to Lorne Street (2234 14th Avenue, to be exact).
The restaurant will be open mainly during the daytime and into the early evening hours, with later hours a possibility once the restaurant has its feet under it (the same goes for a liquor licence). Schulhauser tells me that fresh garden vegetables from her grandma's garden will be front and centre this summer. She calls Tangerine's menu a "chef's playground" featuring a handful of semi-permanent sandwiches and salads, along with whatever else she creates on any given day.
Tangerine's website will be up and running in June. In the meantime, check out Schulhauser's other website:http://www.ecff.ca/

    T (bleeping) GIF!!!

This is my bedroom. It is beckoning me from the next room...I am SO tired that all I can think about is my bed and that I want to be in it! I am sorry for the lame post but I have been going non-stop and I am exhausted!

Some info on my room (if anyone is at all interested)...the nightstands I found separately (each at a different flea market). I about wet myself when I found the second one and realized it was an exact match to the other one! Think I paid $15 total for both of them and had them lacquered the same (Benjamin Moore Navajo White). I still need to change out the hardware but have yet to decide on some I like...it has been four years. The headboard is a rattan product from West Elm that I had a slipcover made for because I didn't love the rattan once it arrived. I used the same linen fabric from the headboard on the panels and bedskirt (which you can't see in this pic). The ottomans are from an Eclectic upholstery line. Coverlet and shams are Pottery Barn (I hate to admit that-damn you Pottery Barn!-but I dig the paisley print and it has all my fav colors in it). Coverlet is from an Eclectic bedding line. Lamps are Arteriors. Wall color is Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue. Chair is grandma's recovered in a cream, nubby linen. Flooring is wall to wall seagrass. Sunburst mirrors...ah, can't remember! That's all you can see! Is my duvet cover driving anyone else crazy in this picture of is it just my anal retentive ass?

    Have a great weekend!

Don't forget to enter my contest by the end of today to win the cutest pig pillow you have ever seen...(Katie if you are reading this doesn't Ashlea need this pillow?!?!)
