    Clever Uses For Wallpaper

I am working with a client who just wallpapered her bedroom and loves the print so much she wants to come up with a way to use the leftover paper in other areas of her master suite. I am thinking of covering storage boxes for her dressing room or perhaps even a tray for her bathroom vanity in the vintage print. As I was going through my design notebooks, I came across some clever ideas and thought I would share them with you. Papering the inside of a closet, lining the backs of built-in shelves or even making a faux headboard are interesting ways to use wallpaper in small doses if you are in love with a pattern but are leery of papering an entire room. You can also use leftover paper (or you can buy remnants from a local wallpaper store) to cover books (as I did in Before & After: Wild Dunes), as matting in a frame or to line drawers. Do you have any creative uses for wallpaper? Let me know!

    Belleza Damask Wallpaper

I sold the idea of this beautiful Schumacher wallpaper to a client for her powder room. She teared up she loved it so. My heart swelled because I was making all of her wallpaper dreams come true. Then I got a quote...I could not in good conscious talk a client into spending the equivillant of a new Lexus on wallpaper for a 4x5 room that only guests use. So I call out to you, my design friends, does anyone know of a similar, dare I say knock-off version of this? It is a grasscloth with a stenciled damask print on it. A-mazing!!! I am exploring the route of having a faux painter do the stencil on a grasscloth but thought I would ask because that makes me nervous and I predict many sleepless nights worrying about paint dripping...any thoughts would be helpful! Many thanks!

    Have a great weekend!

Clever Uses For Wallpaper (Part 100)

I feel like I talk about clever uses for wallpaper way too much on this blog but for all you local folks...The Habitat for Humanity store in Mt. Pleasant inherited the inventory from Carriage Trading Co. (formarly Chuck Campbell's Wallpaper) and all rolls are on sale for $1. They are pretty picked over but they do have a lot left and you can use the wallpaper for many uses other than the obvious-covering books, wrapping paper, drawer liners, to cover a bulletin board, arts and crafts, etc. Get goin'!!! [Thanks for the tip Katie!]

Decorganizing Wednesday: File Cabinets...Why Do You Have to Be So Ugly?

Country Living did a great story on turning a reach-in closet into an office space. Not a new trick but I think they had some clever ideas. My favorite of which was spray painting the blah metal file cabinet a color that coordinated with the wallpaper.

Martha suggests having an auto body shop paint it for you (she is such a lazy ass).

You can even paint the wood variety.

Perhaps even updating the hardware to something like this...

    Van Dykes Hardware

Or you could knit a "file cozy" (just kidding). But I do like the skirt idea that just hides the whole darn thing.

    Better Homes & Gardens

Here is another genius idea by designer, Mary McDonald, who covered her ugly metal file cabinet in a photocopy of her favorite wallpaper. I imagine you could use actual wallpaper, scrapbook paper, contact paper, whathaveyou.

Have any other ideas? I'd love to hear them!

If you are a commitment-phobe then wallpaper panels are for you! A great way to get a big impact without regret. And if you are on a budget you can often find remnants at wallpaper stores or antique malls for a steal. You can frame them through your local frame shop or have a carpenter build you a custom frame.

    Happy Weekend Everyone!
