    Red or White?

I have a young couple as clients right now that are HUGE wine connoisseurs. They moved into a new house and we are trying to come up with a smart and practical solution for storing their massive wine collection. [P.S. Living in the Lowcountry (named "low" because of its elevation) we don't have basements or cellars so this is not an option.] So I have been studying up on my wine knowledge because although I appreciate a good bottle, I am a $15 from The Piggly Wiggly kind of girl.

The key to storing wine is controlling some factors that could potentially ruin a good bottle like air, temperature, light, vibration and humidity. There are many possible ways to store wine in your home but it is best to pre-plan for this if you are building or remodeling. You can often find hidden storage in dead space in kitchens and pantries as shown in some of the images above. For more tips on building a custom wine cellar read here.

It might not be the most appropriate storage solution but my favorite is using antique French champagne riddling racks hung on the wall as designer Celerie Kemble did below. Beautiful! And I think it would make my Two Buck Chuck look mighty fancy! You can find many on ebay but they are $200 plus and shipping would be a bear. Best to keep an eye out for them in local antique shops. Happy Hunting!

If you have any good storage solutions for wine or products that work well for wine storage, please let me know!

    Decorganizing Wednesday: Under Bed Storage

If you are short on storage space in your home, don't overlook the area under your bed! There are many handy products on the market to utilize this hidden gem and keep your items dust free. If you don't like the ready made products, you can always custom make (or hire someone to custom make) underbed storage units or create a platform bed with built-in drawers. Here are some examples of ways to utilize this space.

Of course Martha's underbed organizers are much prettier than the plastic variety.

    Tutorial here.

    The Container Store

These are cute and if you don't have a plethora of free time or a staff of thousands to make your own like Martha, these bad boys are only $36.00!

Check out this craziness from Real Simple...

So go clean out the dust bunnies, the collapsible treadmill you never use and the vintage Playboy collection (yeah, I mean you!) and use this space for extra storage!

    IKEA hack: Purse storage.

This is a great idea if you are short on space and have to store your items in another spot that is not accessible. Take a photo of the item and catalog it for reference. Hyper-organized, you could say that!

Like the photos on the door-will work wonders for my shoe and purse storage

So I am an avid collector of clutches and have been trying to think of a creative way to store them so I did some Googling. No luck. Any ideas? Email me sidney@eclectic-idg.com or leave us a comment. Speaking of clutches, this guy is next on my list...

    Decorganizing Wednesday: Office Closets

Need an office but short on space? Why not turn a spare closet into a home office. By removing the clothing rod and adding shelving you can really maximize the storage. Here are some additional things to consider:

-You might need to change the doors or remove them completely for better access
-Using the vertical height for added storage like bulletin boards or hanging wall files
-Don't forget to add task lighting where needed
-If you have deep side returns, then you might want to add shelving and keep office supplies in large containers

Here are some photos to inspire you...

  • Spring Cleaning Your Closet

    Spring Cleaning Your Closet

So I transitioned my closet from "winter" to "spring." I say it in quotes because we don't really have seasons here and our winter was very mild. But I don't have a large closet so I have to rotate things like sweaters for bathing suits/cover-ups. I am a major purger so I like to get rid of stuff and start over! So I tried taking a bunch of stuff to a local consignment shop but was utterly offended by their offer. I took three bags of things including about 12 handbags/clutches and some shoes/scarves and they wanted to give me $58! Um, no thanks. I mean, I have my pride! lol A friend forwarded me this site, Closet Groupie, and I thought it was rather genius idea.

Anyway, all of this spring cleaning got me organizing my closet (if you know me at all you know this is one of my FAVORITE things to do!) so I looked to some fabulous closets for inspiration. Let's take a look...

    Built-in Vanity...Oh My!

I bet none of these people would get offered $58 at the consignment shop.

    Brilliant Ideas for the Bathroom

So I thought I would follow-up to last week's Brilliant Ideas for the Kitchen with some ideas for the Bathroom because y'all really seemed to like them!

Vanity tool drawer <- yes please
Hidden Storage! Ugly mirror, sweet idea!

This could be done in a much more decorative way...hidden behind a piece of art or a mirror or architectural panel.

Clever Storage Ideas (maybe for the bathroom remodel?)

I love this since as you know if you remember from my previous post, I am not a fan of towel bars...so I like the idea of concealing it behind a shower curtain! As long as you can't see it through the curtain that is.

    smart!

I think this could work for a good place to hide your scale too!

    smart!
    SMART.
    Smart.

I mean this is just BEYOND brilliant. I detest those kiddie stools!

vanity with built-in pull-out step drawer for little kids

Once again, you can find these on my Pinterest page with links for more information.
    Happy Pinning!
