I've had lots of people ask me lately about my e-decorating services so I thought I would take a quick minute to remind y'all how it works. Basically, e-decorating is an abbreviated interior design service meaning it is not turn-key but I do provide clients with a Floorplan and/or Design Plan for a room or rooms in their homes that they can then implement themselves. It is a great way for me to work with clients from a distance and a great service for clients who are DIY'ers but need the vision of a designer to create a plan of action.
I charge by the room and price varies slightly by room based on the time involved for that particular room. You pay a deposit up front and then the balance is due at the completion of the project. I do my best to source products that you can get on your own via catalogs, the internet or local shops however sometimes I do recommend products that you can purchase directly through Eclectic. The idea is that you don't have to buy everything all at once or right away but you can use the Design Plan as a guide when putting your room together, no matter how long it takes for you to complete the project!
I have an email packet that I can send you which further explains all of this information including pricing, a questionnaire and a contract. If you have any additional questions, please let me know, I am happy to help!
Here are some examples of the e-decorating projects I have worked on...
"Living in a small, rural town made Eclectic's e-design service the perfect solution for me. Sidney's most effective tool, I feel, is her ability to listen to her clients. She took the time to fully understand my vision, wishes and needs. Her guidance and professional opinions were always thoughtfully presented in order to accomplish the job while being mindful of the primary use for my living room as well as my sense of style. I am extremely happy with her design and plan on using Eclectic again for my next project."
-S. Rice
"I was looking for a reasonable way to get some guidance on decorating and first used Sidneyto help with my family room. I loved how easy the process was to share my ideas and room measurements and get a new design - all via email. Also, getting the list of products/resources allowed me to buy items when it made sense for me to do so. When my dinning room needed an updated, I came back to Sidney and am so excited to work to put her design into place! I will definitely come back for more ideas in the future."
-L. Mallis
“It was such a great experience working with Sidney. She really listened to what I wanted and presented a design plan that I am thrilled about. Her e-design services were a perfect option for me and I couldn’t believe how easy the process was. I look forward to implementing my e-design plans and working with her in the future to make the rest of my house as beautiful as my master bedroom.” -M. Corbin
I know this came out a while ago. Don't hate! One of my New Year's Goals is to actually start reading magazines in a timely manner again. Regardless of when I read it, I loved reading the article about Ruthie Sommers in the Dec/Jan issue of Lonny Magazine. If you get it, this says it all..."For design lovers of a certain ilk and era, Sommers and Bear are the fronzen-in-time poster for a decorating revolution. As the initial face of the much-loved, game-changing magazine [Domino], Sommers emobdied a shelter-world Carrie Bradshaw-as aspirational yet relatable high-style champion who's infectious energy and penchant for mixing modern with vintage and classic inspired a legion of readers to dream I can do that too." As I sit here at my desk typing this, I look to my own inspiration board and stare at the magazine page I ripped from that very first Domino issue.
I always wanted to have my own shop and run my design firm out of it and she was a huge inspiration to me! Here she (and Bear) are eight years later in her ranch house...
Thanks Lonny for the update on one of my design idols! Can't wait to see more from her.

Leased a booth at Southern Accents Designer Showcase Market! 630 Colemand Boulevard Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 (843) 856-9131
Like many designers, I have always dreamed of having a store/design studio (and someday I will!) but for now this will suffice. I am excited to get all my goods out of my overcrowded office and merchandised into the booth. First, I need to paint! The yellow is too much. So here is a before pic of the space...
I will show you the after as soon as its ready!
Also, I am starting a Summer Promotion on my e-Decorating services. Are you ready for it? No, really are you sitting down? For the months of June, July and August you can get TWO rooms for the price of ONE on my e-decorating services! You heard me. TWO rooms for the price of ONE! Now's the time to take the plunge! What's e-Decorating you ask? Well, let me tell you...
E-decorating is an alternative service to hiring a designer to do face-to-face, turn-key interior design. Eclectic provides a Customized Design Plan for a room (or rooms) in your home for you to implement yourself. This service is perfect for those clients who want to work with Eclectic but cannot due to geographical challenges. E-decorating is also great for clients that only want to work on one or two rooms, clients who are on a limited budget or clients that like to do a lot of the work themselves but need help with an overall vision.
Email me today sidney@eclectic-idg.com for more information. Here is a sample of a recent e-Decorating plan...
Cindy DeAntonio is an abstract painter currently living in Charleston, SC. Her bold strokes and eye for color has attracted the attention of interior designers, bloggers and art collectors. Her work was recently featured in the Coastal Living Magazine Showhouse 2013 on Daniel Island, SC.
She is always seeking inspiration from pattern, design, color and contemporary art. After graduating from the University of South Carolina in Art Studio, she started focusing more on abstract art. Cindy had her first solo show [at Eclectic!!!] the summer of 2013 and since has been creating new pieces. She is constantly trying new mediums and techniques.
Is there anyone you credit with gifting you your artistic ability and/or teaching you your skills? Or did you just pick up a brush one day and get lucky?
My mom is very creative so I feel like I got that from her. I studied Art in College but never focused on painting. I picked up a paint brush a few years ago and started trying to figure out what medium I like and what style I wanted to do. I can't stop now. I love painting with layers of bright colors.
Since it varies for each artist, we want to know what inspires you?
I look everywhere for inspiration. Pinterest is a good sources. Ill see a picture of a room I like and want to paint something that fits within the space. Or I'll see a picture with a great color combo and want to paint with those colors.
Do you hang your own work in your home?
Yes and I move it around all the time. I also love collecting art. I try to buy a piece every year.
Is there a specific artist/work that you covet?
Mallory Page. Her paintings are so soft and feminine.
If you were not an artist, what career do you think you’d have?
Probably graphic design. It was my concentration in school.

Way Way Allen had an early introduction into the art world, watching her father sketch and later honing her skills with classical training at The University of the South and abroad. After years of studio work and the birth of two children, her interests diverted to a new enterprise, Blue Chickadee, commissioned canvases and textiles for children. After several successful seasons, Allen now returns to her roots in abstract painting. Deeply personal, her art draws from the natural world and vivid hues of her Charleston surroundings. Working from small natural details, Allen creates large abstracts that magnify and celebrate the common pattern while also amplifying the beauty of negative space.
Her paintings reflect a depth that has garnered her a devoted following from collectors to interior designers. Her works, both deliberate and wildly gestural in stroke, can be found on a variety of medium from paper to wood panels as well as a recent foray into textiles.
Allen is a co-founder of Novel. Showroom, a unique space located in the heart of downtown Charleston that showcases the works and wares of area creatives. A native of Columbia, SC, she now resides in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina with her husband and two rambunctious sons. Most days, you can find Allen painting in the natural light and silence of her King Street studio.

Is there anyone you credit with gifting you your artistic ability and/or teaching you your skills? Or did you just pick up a brush one day and get lucky? My dad is an amazing artist as well as a talented architect. My mom has an incredible eye for design as well. Match made in heaven for me. I feel so lucky to have grown up in a house full of art and artists. They paved the way for me.
Since it varies for each artist, we want to know what inspires you? Color, pattern, textiles...I'm inspired by all of the natural beauty of my surroundings living at the beach.
Do you hang your own work in your home? Yes, I do, but I change it out regularly. I will admit, I have commitment issues with my art. I have had some pieces leaning against our master bedroom walls for over a year now. Hard to pick a favorite piece and how I want to group my art. Some of my very favorite pieces are ones my boys (ages 3 and 6) have painted. They are so uncontrived and always bring just the right pop of color to our walls!
Is there a specific artist/work that you covet? I admire the works of Helen Frankenthaler, Cy Twombly, Mary Abbott to name a few.
If you were not an artist, what career do you think you’d have? I always thought interior design would have been a career I would have enjoyed, had I gone back to school. I also love to cook, so something in the culinary field would have been another way to get my creative juices flowing had I not become an artist.
Rapid fire… Favorite city to travel to?In the US, dying to go to Austin, TX, love San Fran...Florence, Italy is pretty amazing as well

Charleston native Shannon Brown Wood grew up among the marsh grass, tidal creeks, waters and wide skies of the Lowcountry. The constantly changing light and hues of the marsh water create an infinite supply of inspiration and surprise for artist and audience alike. Wood earned a BFA in graphic design from the University of Georgia and spent six years as a designer for Gil Shuler Graphic Design in Charleston. In 2005, she volunteered at Redux Contemporary Art Center as a resident artist, and in 2006, her work was included at a Charleston City Gallery emerging artist exhibit, Under the Radar. Her work, focused on the marshes and waterways she still calls home, invites the viewer to revel in the possibilities that live just beyond the horizon. Often incorporating natural elements, reeds or grasses hand-sewn into the canvas, wood juxtaposes tactile touches of the real with her own response to a moment of light, color and wonder-beautifully suspended-and forever captured-in time. For more on Shannon and her work visit The Charleston Artist Collective or her website shannonwoodart.com.
Is there anyone you credit with gifting you your artistic ability and/or teaching you your skills? Or did you just pick up a brush one day and get lucky? My mom was a huge influence. She was an art history major at the College of Charleston so she has always had an appreciation for art. She always had me in private art lessons outside of school and really nurtured my talent.
Since it varies for each artist, we want to know what inspires you? I would say that the most important inspiration for me is nature. Having grown up in Charleston, I have a love for everything coastal: the water, the smells, the textures. It’s inspiring just being surrounded by it. I also love finding things at the beach and by the marsh and often incorporate them into my paintings.
Do you hang your own work in your home? Yes I do. I love to collect other artist work as well.
Is there a specific artist/work that you covet? Robert Rauschenberg. I ‘ve seen many of his paintings in museums and they have such an amazing textural quality. They just lure me in.
If you were not an artist, what career do you think you’d have? Archaeologistor chef. I love to cook! It’s a lot like being a painter—but instead of paint you are mixing ingredients together to create a beautiful dish.

Whitney Kreb's oil paintings celebrate the relaxed elegance that is seaside living. The artist, who splits her time between Charleston, SC, and Nantucket, MA, creates unique compositions of coastal scenery that are harmoniously graphic and painterly. Her aesthetic is constantly evloving as she reworks and reinvents mainstays that include sea life, ocean views, and the familiar streets of her hometowns. She also paints on-site murals in local designer showhouses and private homes.
Whitney received her BA in Studio Art from Davidson College and her MFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has also studied in Florence, Italy, and the Art Students League in New York City. While in Charleston, she works and exhibits out of her studio at Redux Contemporary Art Center and is represented by the George Gallery and the Charleston Artist Collective. Whitney is also represented by Robert Foster Fine Art, Coastal, and the Artists' Association of Nantucket in Nantucket, MA.
Is there anyone you credit with gifting you your artistic ability and/or teaching you your skills? Or did you just pick up a brush one day and get lucky? My grandfather was a very talented artist. He always brought me new art supplies and I always had an easel in my bedroom growing up. I had a ton of encouragement from my parents and was lucky to attend art camps and classes outside of school. I took my first oil class in 10th grade and was pretty much hooked after that.
Since it varies for each artist, we want to know what inspires you? The beach, coastal living, the 1980's, fashion and interior design bloggers, my two homes- Charleston and Nantucket- all the people, places, style and local colors.
Do you hang your own work in your home? I do. They kind of revolve in and out, but I have tried to hang on to the ones that have special meaning to me. I also have some work by my artist friends- I am always up for a trade!
Is there a specific artist/work that you covet? I am a huge fan of Wayne Thiebaud and Richard Diebenkorn. I also love Alice Neil, Laura Owens and Elliott Puckette. Locally, the George Gallery and the Charleston Artist Collective have a great selection of contemporary Charleston artists.
If you were not an artist, what career do you think you’d have? Probably still something in a creative field- maybe an architect or something in the fashion world.
Rapid fire… Favorite city to travel to? L.A. West side. Guilty pleasure? Steve Winwood, Phil Collins, and Richard Marx Favorite restaurant in Charleston? High Thyme and Basil Saturday activity: beach, shopping, museum, festival or sofa? BEACH. But the others are a close second. Three words to describe yourself: sarcastic, grateful, optimistic

Abstract expressionist painter Kate Long Stevenson was born and raised in North Carolina, and began her professional career while a student at The University of the South.
Gestural brushstrokes and a passion for color are characteristic to all of her pieces, ranging from figurative paintings to wild abstracts. A life-long lover of music, Katie relies mostly on classical compositions to guide her as she builds a painting, layering chords of color over energetic swirls of charcoal and paint. "It's important to me that my paintings have a subject, despite how non-subjective some can seem. With my nude paintings, the figure is the vehicle that invites you to discover the true subject: the way it was painted. The abstracts have just skipped that introduction, altogether, but they're still about something--music, tempo, motion and emotion. It all comes from a feeling, but then the challenge is not only to translate that to the canvas but to have it make sense, compositionally."

Is there anyone you credit with gifting you your artistic ability and/or teaching you your skills? Or did you just pick up a brush one day and get lucky? My mom has been particularly instrumental in my love of art. She’s creative in her own right, and always had an abundance of art supplies available to me as a child. I painted all through grade school, but my college professor, Ed Carlos, taught me to approach it completely differently. I still hear his voice in my head from time to time.
Since it varies for each artist, we want to know what inspires you? Music, color, other artists (de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Sargent, Frankenthaler, Hodgekin…), my fellow artists at Redux Contemporary Art Center, a stroll through Artists and Craftsman Supply...
Do you hang your own work in your home? I have a few paintings with which I don’t intend to part, but usually when I paint something for myself (thinking of the dimensions, color, what my mood dictates, everything…), that’s the one that a client wants! So, I’ve prioritized collecting other artists’s work over the last few years. It’s a small and eclectic collection of work, each of which I’ve been moved by and continue to enjoy.
Is there a specific artist/work that you covet? Oooh, good question. I love to ask friends what their three dream choices of art to collect would be. Mine are "Easter Monday” by de Kooning, any piece of work by Sargent (the brushwork is more interesting to me than the subject), and “Mountains and Sea” by Frankenthaler.
If you were not an artist, what career do you think you’d have? Either something involving writing or interior design...
Rapid fire… Favorite city to travel to? Palm Beach Guilty pleasure? dark chocolate Favorite restaurant in Charleston? FIG Saturday activity: beach, shopping, museum, festival or sofa? In summer, the beach and a book. In winter, a spa date with a friend. And the NY Times crossword on Sunday :) Three words to describe yourself: passionate. compassionate. curious.

Ahhh lighting!...One of the most important (and one of my most favorite) parts in designing a space as lighting enhances a room by greatly changing the mood-not only with actual light but with how the materials and finishes play off each other. We recently had the opportunity to visit an amazing lighting company, The Urban Electric Co. and it left us feeling OH. SO. INSPIRED!
Where all the magic happens...
The Urban Electric Co. was founded here in Charleston in 2003 by Dave Dawson who had a clear vision for the company as well as a strong passion for design and craftsmanship. Dawson personally oversee's the entire process from the in-house marketing campaigns down to the way the products are shipped, this quality-control over his brand is what has made Urban Electric the company that it is today.
All light fixtures are handcrafted by local, trained artisans who take pride in each step of the process while making these gorgeous works of art! They are made from the finest materials which makes them not just pieces you will have for a few years...but investment, heirloom pieces that you will enjoy for a lifetime!
Team of artisans hard at work
Athena Pendant in the making...
Baxter Wall Sconce
Shade for Metro Wall Sconce
Another interesting feature about The Urban Electric Co. that you need to know...all of their light fixtures are totally customizable. Need a different color, size, finish?... They can do it! That makes Designers like me really happy! In fact, most of their designer collaborations came about due to Designers/Architects customizing some of their pieces and The Urban Electric Co. enjoying what they were creating! Some of these collections include talented Designers like Amanda Nisbet, Tom Scheerer, and Amanda Handegan. Here are just a few of our favorites...

Born and raised in Columbus, GA, I developed a love for art as far back as I can remember. I attended Auburn University and earned a Bachelor's degree in Art, and now live and work as a full-time painter in Charleston, SC. I am follower of Jesus, and am so thankful to Him for providing a job that I love.
I am currently working out of a creative studio space called Redux Contemporary Art Center. My paintings consist of mostly figurative and non-objective work. I am forever learning and trying new techniques, mediums and subjects. Inspired by light, movement, surprising color combinations, social interaction, and patterns, I try to collaborate these elements and form abstracted, pixilated compositions.
See more of her work here.
Is there anyone you credit with gifting you your artistic ability and/or teaching you your skills? Or did you just pick up a brush one day and get lucky? When I was little, I was always wanting to paint and draw, so my mom picked up on that and signed me up for several art classes outside of school. In high school, my art teacher gave me the affirmation I needed to pursue a degree in art in college (Auburn University). There, I has many great teachers challenging me. It wasn’t until I was in the studio every day painting for my full-time job that I learned the most, though.
Since it varies for each artist, we want to know what inspires you? I am definitely inspired by light, and all of the colors that multiply in dramatic lighting and shadows. I am also inspired by contemporary interior design. When I see a beautiful home, it makes me want to create a painting that will be worthy to hang on the walls of that room.
Do you hang your own work in your home? I sure do! But I am always rotating my paintings in and out. If I have too many of my own, I will stare at it and always find things to fix. If I am staring at another artists’ work that I love, its easy to accept and appreciate their product. “You’re your own worst critic” is how the story goes.
Is there a specific artist/work that you covet? Right now I am loving KT Smail. She is an illustrator I just discovered.
If you were not an artist, what career do you think you’d have? I would like to be a counselor. I think it is so interesting to hear other stories, and it would be so gratifying to feel like you can help them in some way.

After reading the article in Elle Décor on Cameron Diaz's New York City home, designed by one of my all time favs, Kelly Wearstler, it left me feeling like I needed to go put on my favorite gold jewelry and hit the town for a night out with my friends!
via Cameron's wit and personality make her one of my all time favorite actresses, but seeing these gorgeous pictures of her home shows how super chic and cool she is too! Kelly Wearstler clearly pushed her outside the box (as she is best known to do) but the aesthetic is still very true to Cameron's own style. In fact, the design of her NY apartment can be compared to many of her most loved fashion moments. Let's take a look...
via
via You can tell that Kelly paid attention to every little detail ---something I can totally appreciate! "Drawers are lined in raw black silk, the back sides of doors are clad in hammered metal, and the interiors of closets are covered in custom wallpaper or in vivid paint." If that description alone doesn't make you feel like getting dressed up or going on a lush vacay, then I don't know what will! Oh, and of course I just love her mix of vintage and custom pieces and her jewelry inspiration seen throughout the rooms.
via

Last but not least, can we talk about that emerald kitchen?!? I would be perfectly content living in that room for the rest of my life. And one of my favorite parts... the unsealed brass counter tops that not only look killer but they "...show every water ring and squeeze of lemon juice. They give the place soul" says Diaz. Kinda reminds me of those amazing emerald earrings she wore to the 2007 Oscars!
via
via
I could really go on for days about every detail... which part is your favorite?

One of my most favorite things to do on the weekend is sit in my bed with a bowl full of popcorn and lust over the most recent issues of all my favorite design magazines. If you haven't read the September issue Southern Living Magazine, you should! I was happy to find such an interesting spotlight article written by the talented Haskell Harris about Bolt House Textiles. There is just something about creative, self-made, southern entrepreneurs that really excites me! Lori Faison, the owner and designer of Bolt House Textiles, started off in the field of advertising but soon learned that her passions yearned for something more creative. In 2004 she started her own interiors business and after the 2010 Gulf Coast oil spill, she started designing fabrics "as a tribute to the beauty and fragility of the region," she says. Each pattern is hand drawn and available in 100 colors - wow!
Here are a couple of my favorites!

I am not sure if I have mentioned my obsession with Hitchcock before or not but well, I am obsessed. The way he visually and mentally plays with all your senses, he is unlike any other film maker and watching his films is unlike any other movie watching experience. This might sound creepy but I saw my first Hitchcock film when I was in middle school I think and have now seen [almost] all of them. It was Rear Window and it has remained my favorite movie since that rainy Saturday afternoon. The second Grace Kelly appeared on the screen I remember thinking that she was the epitome of beauty, elegance and class. Before she even spoke, the way she carried herself with such grace and confidence was absolutely amazing! I was watching with my father and I remember asking who she was and my dad goes "Ahhh, that my dear is Grace Kelly." I remember thinking "Of course her name is Grace!" I watched this film many times in hopes that I would learn to be just like her when I grew up...much to my dismay, this has yet to happen.
I wore penny loafers all four years of high school and rolled my jeans like this and I still never magically turned into Grace Kelly. (sad face)
I also love her in To Catch a Thief which I watched again the other night. Once again she brings her confidence and style to this role like no other actress could.
This made me want to go out and buy driving gloves!
I know that I have referenced this book before here but if you are at all a fan of Hitchcock or fashion, then you will love this book Hitchcock Style!

Fall is one of my most favorite times of the year. Cool crisp mornings, pumpkin spice everything (duh), oversized cable knit sweaters, and getting to cuddle up with my favorite blanket watching Bravo. And just like spring, it gets me in the mood to reorganize everything in my house, office, and shop (come see!!). I love the change in season for home decor too. It's always fun and interesting to see which fall fashion trends influence fall decor trends. I'm really loving some of them this year. Let's take a look...
Leopard Print will always be one of my favorites. I'm already wearing my leopard flats every other day, they pretty much go with everything to me. I love adding a touch of animal print to a room in a throw pillow.

I'm obsessed with all things malachite and you can usually find vintage pieces at Eclectic but check out this fabric by Jim Thompson...woah!

Emerald glass jugs available at Eclectic.
Last but not least, a little touch of glam. Harpers Bazaar's trend report points out that many designer fall collections shimmered with embellishments.

Another one of my nephews is growing up! The big 1-0! Lord help me. I came across these pics the other day from our cousin's wedding...
Before I mean...cutest kid ever!
After Just being a boy running laps on the golf course!
Garrett is the middle child, the sweetheart of the group always playing the mediator between his two brothers he very rarely gets upset or complains and he rarely even says anything when he gets hurt. He is a tough kid with a big heart. He cares about everyone's feelings and when he says he misses me I know he really means it. He is the first one to run up and hug me when I come to visit and the first one to ask how long I can stay. I love this kid more than words express!
He is growing into a smart and popular kid, a great athlete and I am terrified about all the girls that are going to be fighting over this one! They will have to go through Aunt Sidney first so look out ladies.
Happy Birthday G! Love you!

Being home to one of the world's leading cultural festivals, Spoleto, and over thirty art galleries in downtown alone, it is fair to say that Charleston is well-known for its art scene! With so much inspiration surrounding us from the rich historical character to the breathtaking architecture to the poetic landscape of the Lowcountry, it is no wonder why so many artists are drawn to this city.
As an art lover, I enjoy exploring galleries and discovering new (to me) artists as well as up and coming artists. With the explosion of social media, it has been interesting to watch our local Charleston artists careers blossom into the mainstream via blogs, Instagram, etc. One of the main goals when I started my business was to support local artisans, craftsman, designers, etc. as I think it is important to SHOP LOCAL, if you will, and support your community. So in my business plan was an idea to feature a new local artist each month (or Charleston related/Eclectic friend). My first year with shop was a total blur so I am just now getting around to these plans in year number two (bare with me)! So with all that being said, I am happy to announce the ARTIST SPOTLIGHT SERIES at Eclectic!
Each month I will feature a new artist who has created an exclusive series of work just for Eclectic. This collection will be displayed in my brick and mortar shop for all to come and see (but only for that month!)! This is a great opportunity for you to be exposed to some new artists, see their work in person and get some amazing original art at fantastic price points! I will also be posting these pieces online so they can be purchased and shipped if you are not local.
I goofed the schedule in January and the storm has put us behind a bit in February BUT I will announce February's artist tomorrow! Stay tuned...
