MISS MOOX: Outdoor Spaces

  • A Charleston Retreat

    A Charleston Retreat

Check out local designer Muffie Faith's pool house featured in the May issue of Southern Living. This space is so lux and tropical that it doesn't even look like Charleston! She says she was influenced by both Pawley's Island and her trips to Thailand (Or as Alan Garner would say Thigh-land. If you got that reference then we are already friends.) What an amazing retreat!

    Fun in the Sun

So typical...just when I pull out all my spring clothes, it gets cold again. Argh. Total Murphy's Law. Who is this Murphy anyway? He enters my life way too often. So I am working on a client's outdoor living space(s) on Daniel Island and looking to some of these outdoor rooms for inspiration. I am so ready for some outdoor fun in the sun!

    I'm A Big Fan...

I'm a big fan of the outdoor living room. I feel like I have been really negative this week, maybe because I didn't feel good. Plus I was bummed that I had too much work to do and couldn't spend all week with my nephews in Beaufort as I had hoped. Regardless, I wanted to end the week on a good note! I love the idea of a decorated and lived-in outdoor room that you can actually enjoy! God bless you outdoor fabrics and polypropylene rugs. Here are some prime examples...

Of course I couldn't find the main image I was looking for which I have been saving for years. It was of an outdoor shower made of concrete with oyster shells embedded into the walls. Amazing! Anyhoo..I love an outdoor shower and think it can be great and super functional if you live at the beach. But they can be super creepy if you don't live at the beach. Like the time I was house sitting for some friends and they told me to beware of the neighbor that bathed every morning in their outside shower which was in clear view to the bedroom I was staying in. Bizarro! And this one time on spring break, I was staying in a house in Hilton Head in which the inside master shower had a glass wall that you could open up a wood door on the exterior of the house so that all the neighbors and/or people at the pool could watch you shower. I am assuming that Hugh Hefner owned the house.
