I'm working on a gallery wall to help a client disguise her husband's big ass TV (you know what I'm talking about) so I looked to Pinterest for some Pin-spiration!
Eclectic has been nominated for best interior design blog again this year and if chosen, I win a cash prize (yippie), so please take a second to vote for me here! Many thanks!!!
Not sure I've mentioned this but my friend and I have been taking a photography class. We have weekly sessions with a teacher who foucuses on what we want to learn that week. It has been so much fun! I just hope that I retain what I am learning as this is a great life-long (yet ever-evolving) skill to have!
I was at the beach with sixteen (yeah, you read that right) women last weekend and thought it was interesting that we all had different straw hats! This is mine...
I love the idea of using family photos in a home but I am not big on cluttering up your walls with lots of tiny photos. So I am loving this idea of blowing up one great photo, especially if it is a non-possed, non-professional photo. I am working on this idea for a bachelor pad I am working on and found a couple of online sites that do enlargements homedecorbyme.com and wizardprints.com.
Mine is 14. Why? I have no idea. But I played lots of sports growing up and was always jersey number 14.

You can find old signs, gas station numbers, etc. online or at flea markets. I have a "0" from the old Roper Hospital. Or you can always make your own like this clever designer did.
I am helping a friend/client who is getting a new puppy (technically a yellow lab not a Golden but I am obsessed with Goldens and have been collecting these pics for a while). So we are designing everything in his place to be puppy friendly and yellow lab color. (Kidding...kinda)
Lee Kleinhelter's white Golden, Rider, is practically famous. I love that she includes him in many of her interior shots!

I was doing some Googling and came across this idea which could be cool art for a dog lover. There is one for every type of dog!
I just proposed this idea to a client...taking all their mismatched frames and painting them a fun color to make a huge statement! What do you think? Me likey!
I have clients with HUGE walls going up their staircase and I am trying to think of something killer and non-art-ish to hang there. Here is my inspiration...

I don't claim to know a lot about art. But I do know what I like! And to me that is all that matters when it comes to purchasing art...you have to love it, be moved by it and/or leave the gallery or shop dreaming about it. Through all my blog reading, I have come across some amazing artists (I love) lately and wanted to share these talents with you.
Teresa Cline Gallery
Twenty Six in her Ocean Moods Collection
Artist Vanessa Briggs
Sunset 10
Etsy Artist Sara Tetley White Cottage With Orange Door
Etsy Artist ArtAnd Nude No. 1
Artist Annie Kammerer Butrus Four Seasons: Winter
And while talking about art, I wanted to mention The Charleston Artist Collective, a website for local artists that want to showcase their work outside of the conventional gallery setting. Each month, the site features artist's interpretations of a new theme and a percentage of the sales goes back towards the community. Go check it out!
I have always liked the concept of letters (or numbers) in a nursery, I mean why not have art that is functional! Designer Sara Richardson did it right (above) by taking letters of different fonts, sizes and painting them all different colors and hanging them above a rail at the top of the ceiling. Bravo! And I don't mind seeing the child's name written on the wall but let's face it, this concept has been WAY over done (thanks Pottery Barn!). But I am really digging the concept of doing something outside the box with a name or the alphabet. Like the designers of formbaby.com did in their son's nursery below where she used stencils to paint the name on the wall in a glossy finish against the matt wall (or perhaps they are decals?) either way she nailed it!
I think stainless letters/numbers would be cool and give the nursery a modern edge.

This custom made artwork is cute too!

I have always wanted to find vintage blocks and hang them on a wall, maybe in a large grid?
Anyone have any other "outside the box" types of ideas they have done or seen? Not creative? No worries. I did an etsy.com search and found some cute stuff out there and all you have to do is buy in and hang it on your wall!
I am helping a client with her daughter's room and due to my unnatural obsession with Barbie, I thought it could be cute to incorporate something from the doll icon as art. Well if you want to see some crazyass sh*t, search etsy.com for "Barbie Art"! Holy crap. It will take a while to get some of those images out of my head! But there is also some super cute stuff from the alphabet to wall decals to painted canvases so let me show you some of that instead...
This first image is one I pulled years ago of an old French window turned mirror hanging above a sofa as a diptych art piece. (Sorry that I don't know the designer, photographer or magazine! Anyone?) If you know me at all, then you know I am obsessed with circles! So I was going to have my carpenter recreate this concept in a client's home. Then I came across a similar mirror from Arteriors Home, a to-the-trade resource. I am not certain that they were inspired from this but I imagine so because their product came out about a year or so after this magazine feature. Interesting!

I am veheminatly against floating wall shelves (and brackets for that matter) that serve no purpose. And I see it SO often! I know they sell them everywhere and people buy them to fill up space on a wall but they have no idea how to a) hang them and b) accessorize them.
Please don't ever do this!!!
(I am so sorry to you, whoever you are!!! But I had to prove my point.)
You will see that I only have a certain style of floating shelves represented here and that is because I am biased, this is the only kind I like. Why? They are designed to be installed into studs so that they can actually hold weight and not pull out of the wall. And they hold more than a single candle.
I think they are great to add architectural detail to a niche like this...
Or in a child's room to keep precious toys out of reach!
(LOVE how Lee K. added the rod underneath to hang clothes!)
They are also great in a kitchen to break up all the heavy cabinetry...
And who says they have to be wood? LOVING the marble!
And when done right, I like them to display art or photos...
And look at this clever minx, great idea when you are short on space!
If you are a commitment-phobe then wallpaper panels are for you! A great way to get a big impact without regret. And if you are on a budget you can often find remnants at wallpaper stores or antique malls for a steal. You can frame them through your local frame shop or have a carpenter build you a custom frame.
A client asked me to look for a wall clock for her. I have never hung a clock on the wall in my years of doing design and realized that is because I don't have any clocks in my own home! I don't even own a watch. I am sure there is some psychology behind that which would be interesting to learn. Anyway, I am sorry to my clients for projecting my own time beliefs onto you! These images got me to thinking if you are going to hang a clock on a wall...why not go big!
Country Style (not a clock, but still...)
House Beautiful (1930's Philidelphia Factory Clock)
I am so PO'ed...I cannot find the third photo I was looking for which was in the Atlanta store South of Market I took a couple of years ago when they had this huge canary yellow industrial French wall clock and of course they worked the rest of the vignette around it brilliantly. Boo! If I find it I will add because it was killer.

If building or remodeling, use the architectural element in it's original form. (oh, how I covet these circles!)
As I have probably mentioned (many times before) I love to use old architectural pieces in new and exciting ways. Living in Charleston, old items like windows, shutters, doors, etc. are pretty prevalent. As I sold the window from my online store Objects yesterday, I got inspired to post all these images I have collected of interesting architectural elements used in an updated manner. I hated to see the little guy go but I am excited to see how my friend uses it in her new home!
