MISS MOOX: Offices

    Decorganizing: Clipboard To-Do-List

As I am trying to get organized in the new year, I am considering this idea... a clipboard for each day of the week telling me what I need to get done that day. Then if I don't get it done on Monday, I can move it to Tuesday. What do you think? If you are a fellow designer, you know that you can start of a day on a solid schedule/checking off your to-do-list but by 10:00 you are totally off track! You get a call and have to immediately change gears to talk to a client, put out a fire or track down details on an order. This is a very ADD-centric job. And I am the total antithesis of ADD and get frustrated when I get distracted from the task at hand so it is a constant struggle for me! Maybe this technique will work...

  • I Need A Facelift

    I Need A Facelift

No, not that kind. At least not yet. But my office sure does! If you could only see it right now. Picture the aftermath of Katrina and times it by 10. Every Jan I change up my office. Why? a) It is a mess after the month of December. 2) I get bored easily. c) I spend so much time in there that I just need a change. I have been holding some of these photos for a while as inspiration. Check them out!

Makes you want organized too, right?

It all started when I bought these fab barstools off of my fab friend who found them in a shop in Athens, Ga. Vintage 1960's Lucite. I just need to decide what fabric to recover them in! I can't decide if I want to go solid or graphic. Thoughts?

  • Cubbies

    Cubbies

I don't know what it is with me and cubbies but I love them! They make me so happy especially when you find the perfect basket or bin to fit in them [Cough: Dork]. Perhaps it takes me back to kindergarten when I had my first cubby. Times were simpler then...all I had to think about were things like: Did I remember my lunch? What art project were we going to do that day? Who I would play with on the playground? Ahhhhh...kids are so lucky.

I have a TON of cubbies in my office and I want to paint them...what color are we thinking? These photos make me think white. Definitely, white.

And I will might add some labels like this...

    LABEL HOLDER

    Van Dykes

Sidebar: I want to cover my project desk in zinc...anyone know how to buy a sheet of zinc locally?
P.S. My desk is never that clean. [Whisper: Never.]
P.P.S. Yes, those ottomans are a mauve shiny velvet. I found them at an antique store and have yet to recover them. Ok, done with the disclaimers for today.

    Decorganizing Wednesday: Martha...You Again

    Damn you Martha, damn you!
So tired of her making the rest of us look bad. This office is crazy organized. I could get some serious business/crafting done here (she says from behind stacks of unfinished work).

  • Decorganizing Wednesday: File Cabinets...Why Do You Have to Be So Ugly?

Decorganizing Wednesday: File Cabinets...Why Do You Have to Be So Ugly?

Country Living did a great story on turning a reach-in closet into an office space. Not a new trick but I think they had some clever ideas. My favorite of which was spray painting the blah metal file cabinet a color that coordinated with the wallpaper.

    = Brilliant

Martha suggests having an auto body shop paint it for you (she is such a lazy ass).

You can even paint the wood variety.

Perhaps even updating the hardware to something like this...

    Van Dykes Hardware

Or you could knit a "file cozy" (just kidding). But I do like the skirt idea that just hides the whole darn thing.

Here is another genius idea by designer, Mary McDonald, who covered her ugly metal file cabinet in a photocopy of her favorite wallpaper. I imagine you could use actual wallpaper, scrapbook paper, contact paper, whathaveyou.

Have any other ideas? I'd love to hear them!

Bare with me...I have been going non-stop since the beginning of December. I am behind in every aspect of my life right now-work, blog, gym, mail, laundry, grocery shopping, catching up with good friends, you name it! I am excited for the cold weather and impending rain this weekend so I can nest and get myself back on track. After seeing two of my organizing clients today, I am motivated to get myself all neat and tidy too. So one of the items on my massive to-do list is to clean out and re-organize my office. I do this every January and it feels...well, as Monica (from Friends) would say...orgasmic! Anyhoo, here are some photos to inspire me (and hopefully you!).
