  • Merry Christmas!

    Merry Christmas!

"For unto us a child is born,
for unto us a Son is given.
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name shall be called Wonderful,
    Counselor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father,
    Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6-7Heart felt wishes to all my blogging friends and family!
Please take a moment to enjoy this Ode To Joy!

    "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee"
    God of Glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow'rs before thee,
    Op'ning to the sun above.
    Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
    Drive the dark of doubt away;
    Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
Earth and heav'n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
    Center of unbroken praise.
    Field and forest,
    vale and mountain.
    Flow'ry meadow,
    flashing sea,
    Singing bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.

    Thou are giving and forgiving,
    Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
    Ocean depth of happy rest!
    Thou our Father,
    Christ our Brother,
    All who live in love
    are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine.

    Mortals, join the happy chorus,
    Which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o'er us,
Brother love binds man to man.
    Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife,
    Joyful music leads us Sunward
In the triumph song of life.
    Henry J. Van Dyke 1907

    Have a wonderful Christmas celebration!

  • Cottage Guest Room

    Cottage Guest Room

Welcome to my Cottage Guest Room... Last April I posted just a few photos of this room. I have added several more. My April 24, 2012 has been my "most viewed" post with 2385 views.

There's nothing like a good nights sleep.
My desire is for my guests to sleep well and wake up refreshed.

    I love all things vintage!
I found this old chair in an antique store in Lebanon, Tennessee.
It's the perfect place to squirrel away with a good blog.

To protect the little woven husk stool that belonged to my husband's grandparents
I slipcovered it in a minty green toile.
The images are from my favorite nursery rhyme...
"Hey Diddle Diddle...The Cat and the Fiddle".

    "Precious Moments"
Each one has been a thoughtful gift from my family and friends.

"Star light, Star bright, First star I see tonight.
    I wish I may
    I wish I might
To have this wish I wish tonight."

    "Sweet Dreams"

    "Chloe's Quilt"
My sweet kitty, Chloe was only with me five years.
    She suffered kidney failure.
I made this small quilt for her.
She loved to curl up and nap on it.
    I miss her!

Collecting and displaying vintage children's clothing is something I love to do.

"For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son,
    That whosoever believeth in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life"

    I love soft, cuddly chenille.
That's the reason why I named my blog "Chenille Cottage".

    I made this Teddy Bear
with my favorite 1930 Aunt Grace's reproduction fabrics.

    Lilac
    Lace curtains
    A Lavender and white quilt
    Rose colored lighting

I found this sweet doll cradle several years ago.
    It needed a little TLC.
It soon became the perfect place for a few of my favorite things.
A chenille pillow Quilted teddy bear Several small quilted pillows and my 1950 baby picture.

    "Birdhouses"
This miniature quilt is something I made several years ago.
I enjoy displaying it in the Spring.

    Something soft for your toesies!

    "Corner Cubby"
Each item on all the shelves was thrifted.
One of my favorite things to do is to spend time hunting for treasures in my local thrift shops.

The beautiful hobnail bedspreads were thrifted.
I paid $8 for each one.

    I love kitties!

    Sittin pretty!

My gentle little grey tabby cat, Schlomo.

    "May Day Basket"
May your day be filled with joy!

  • Little Quilts

    Little Quilts

Update...Still Waiting For Our Little Grandbaby to make his debut. He is one week overdue and we are praying for his arrival in the next few days. Thank you for your prayers!

Welcome To Little Quilts Around The House...
My favorite quilt shop in the southeast is "Little Quilts" in Marietta, Georgia.
A favorite quilting book of mine is one of their delightful publications.

"By The Light Of The Silvery Moon"

I made this little quilt for my Mom for Christmas a few years ago...
Do you see the hand carved red cardinal perched in the antique bread making bowl?
It was crafted by my husband's Grandmother, Annie Grant Keeling.

"Little House In The Big Woods"For several years I taught classes at my local quilt shop. This is the sample from the first miniature quilt class I taught.

"Aunt Jenny and Uncle Pink"My sweet husband gave me this pair of hand carved, jointed wooden dolls.
They were made by Polly Page...a primitive artist from Pleasant Hill, Tennessee.
Polly was a school mate of my husband's grandmother, Annie Grant Keeling.
When they were little girls they were taught hand carving in their little country school in the early 1900s. Polly's dolls are sought after by collectors from around the world.
When my husband was a little boy he would sit and play in the woodshavings
while his Grandma and Polly spent hours together happily visiting and carving.

I love adding lame' to many of my miniatures. I think it adds a bit of warmth and interest.

"Christmas Kitties"The whispy whiskers are stitched with DMC floss.

Sorry...I'm a little late at sharing a few of my Santa Quilts...

I had so much fun making this Santa Quilt. It is one of my favorite little quilts.
The authors of the book "Little Quilts All Through The House" are
Mary Ellen Von Holt, Alice Berg & Sylvia Johnson.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting my home.

I love to quilt and find sewing miniatures right up my alley.
They are inexpensive and easy to finish.
I love sharing sewing projects and hope they serve to inspire you to create.

  • Happy New Year

    Happy New Year

    HOTEL DEL CORONADO

New Years Wishes from Sunny San Diego!

What a special time this is for our family. Yesterday I flew to San Diego for the birth of our son and dil's first child.
I loved living in San Diego for many years! It's still our home away from home.

Looking north to Point Loma and the mouth of San Diego Harbor...
Feeling the sand between my toes and relishing the sweet smell of salt air.

Looking south...Can you see Tijuana, Mexico in the distance?

    THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, BOB!
We had lunch at The Fish Market on San Diego Bay. The USS Midway which is now a Naval Museum is located next door.
I loved Bob Hope for the sacrifice he made every Christmas
visiting the troops who were in harms way.
When my husband was deployed to the Persian Gulf
Bob Hope was seen in a red Santa suit riding in a helicopter high above the ships
waving and wishing them all a Merry Christmas.

When our grandbaby arrives I will be posting the photos.
Blessings, my dear blogging friends and family!

"Where can I go from your spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
    If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
If I make my bed on the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there our hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast."

    SNOWFLAKES

    The Earth Whispers."

    I love collecting snowmen!
My dear friend and college roomate, Judy, made this darling quartet of snowmen for me several years ago.
I enjoy displaying it every winter.
I added a few extra soft flannel snowmen that I made.
The musically gifted snowman was a delightful Craft Faire purchase.

    From My Home To Yours...

    "Snowmen fall from heaven...
    unassembled."

    "Kindness is like snow...
    It beautifies everything it covers."

"When it snows you have two choices:
    Shovel or make snow angels."

    Did You Know?
    ***All snowflakes have six sides.
*** The largest snowflakes ever recorded fell in the state of Montana.
The snowflakes were 15 inches in diameter.
*** The snow capital of the USA is Stampede Pass in Washington State.
Each year the average snow fall is 430 inches.
*** The average snowflake falls at a speed of 3.1 mph.
*** Billions of snowflakes fall in one short snowstorm.
*** Eskimos have 52 words for snow.

    Let It Snow!

Greetings on this WINTRY WHITE DAY!
The snow is falling gently on this December morning.
This Christmas I pray each one of you are blessed to spend time with family and friends to celebrate the season.
    Christmas services...
    Caroling
    Exchanging gifts...
    Dining together...
    Helping the needy...
    Celebrating Jesus birth.

Several years ago I made this little Christmas quilt. I added hand embroidered touches, buttons, tiny charms, soft flannel, festive homespun prints and a cheerful Christmas theme.

"Every time a bell rings an angel gets it's wings..."
    from "It's A Wonderful Life"
One of my favorite Christmas movies

    "Mother in the kitchen now
    baking pies and cakes,
    cookies, candies, goodies, too.
    That only Mother makes."

Can you smell the sweet aroma from Mother's pies and cakes?
I enjoyed hand embroidering the steam escaping from each pie!

I love embroidering french knots! They make the prettiest snowflakes.

    Baby...It's cold outside!

The winter weather has arrived in style.
We have a beautiful coat of white puffy snow
    blanketing the landscape.
    It's definitely mitten weather!

"Over the hill and through the woods...
    to Grandmother's house we go..."

    "WINTRY WHITE STUFF"
Having a little fun with picmonkey...
Would you believe it's snowing inside???

Merry Christmas! This year my husband is home. I am so grateful and never take it for granted. I recall the year that he was deployed overseas. Please remember those who are serving away from home this Christmas. May God bless them and their families. Blessings,Carolynn xoxo

    Homespun Christmas

Greetings to all my wonderful blogging friends and family!
I've been having so much fun adding festive Christmas touches to my home.
I hope you'll come join me in the celebration!

    Sleigh bells ring...
    Are you listening?

Each Christmas my little red sleigh sits happily in my kitchen.
I love adding homespun items in hopes of filling it to the brim.
    Evergreens,
    Small pillows,
    quilted stuffies,
    wooden toys,
    patriotic touches,
    pretty red and green ribbons
    and a chubby quilted Santa...
They all make the season so bright and colorful.

    "Gather Round the Christmas Tree"
Do you see my shy little kitty, Abigail?
She waited to come down and investigate until after I had left the room.

When I decorate, my kitty, Zoey is always right in the middle of things.
She gets so excited with all the activity and always finds a spot to claim as her very own.

    I love Teddy Bears!
Over the years my family and friends have given me each one of these little darlings.
Can you tell I love all things patriotic?
I was a Navy wife for many years and always find myself favoring the colors red, white and blue.

My mischievous Zoey is always looking for places to hide.
When I discovered her she startled me!
This adorable scene reminds me of one from the movie "E.T."
    "E.T...Phone Home!"

Thank you for stopping by and sharing this wonderful season with me. Around the world people are celebrating this glorious time of year. I pray that you have a blessed Christmas as you celebrate The Birthday of a King Messiah Lord Savior Redeemer

    "Cozy Christmas Pocket "
I filled this little pocket with a variety of homespun goodies.
Pinecones from my yard, a tiny candy cane, one green gingham bow, cinnamon sticks...
and, my very favorite...the small snowman that I stitched out of muslin.
It needed to be filled to the brim.
I stitched a swatch of cotton batting to the front of the tea stained pocket and then added a petite wreath and tiny charm.

Would you believe I thrifted this cute little vintage rocking horse planter?
I think it's perfect for holding candy canes, don't you?

Mom's First Mother's Day in Heaven

Hello...to all my sweet blogging buddies! I've been away for a long, long time. It has been a difficult year in our family. My siblings and I have spent countless hours, days and weeks caring for our Mom. At age 91 1/2 she stepped over heaven's shore to spend eternity with her Savior. I look to the day that we will meet again in the New Jerusalem.

    Little Visitor

    Hello, my dear blogging family...
I'm woefully behind on my blog...Can you guess why?

Do you remember this little guy?
Last Summer I posted this peek a boo photo...What a wonderful visit we've had this past week. Chandler and his Mommy flew up to spend some time with both sets of grandparents.

Chandler has smiled, cooed and shared so many precious moments.

  • Wildflowers

    Wildflowers

    Welcome to my hometown...

The Pioneers named it "Farewell Bend" in the 1800s.

Many had traveled across the plains in the covered wagons. Upon reaching Central Oregon some stayed put.
Others decided to go further west. Some went north to what is now Washington State and others went south to California.
It was here along the Deschutes River that many said good bye to family and friends.
Thus, it became known as "Farewell Bend". .

Throughout the city there are fields of colorful wildflowers.

    One of my favorites...
    Blue Button Flowers

BLACK EYED SUSAN, BLUE BUTTON FLOWERS and COSMOS
All the way up the hill!

"The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose."
    Isaiah 35:1

    Indigo...Powerful and dignified...
Indigo conveys integrity and deep sincerity.
    Yellow...the color of sunshine.
It's associated with joy, happiness and energy.

    "Consider the lilies of the fields, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin;
And, yet I say unto you, that even King Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."

    Sweet Stitching

    Hi Ladies!
It's hard to believe summer is almost over. Temperatures have begun to drop. It has been in the 30s the past few nights. I actually threw another quilt on the bed this week.

I made this little Birdhouse Miniature Quilt
using my favorite "Aunt Grace's" 1930s reproduction prints.
Each tiny birdhouse has a vintage button perch stitched on front.
    The borders are hand quilted.

I am so inspired by the many embroidered pretties that so many of you have been sharing on your lovely blogs.
My favorite quilt shop has so many wonderful ideas and patterns available. I thought you might enjoy some of the shop samples...and, who knows, you may be inspired, too!

How I love tea towels! Aren't these the sweetest?I am so fond of the old fashioned edgings.RICK RACK... POM POMS... LACE... HAND CROCHET... They add such lovely finishing touches!

I had fun making this little "Aunt Grace's" Sampler Doll Quilt.Don't you love all the Bubble Gum Pink prints?

    "Chloe's Quilt"
I made this small Log Cabin quilt for my sweet little kitty, Chloe.
She would curl up on it and nap in the afternoon sun.
I only had her for five years. I lost her, suddenly, to kidney failure.
    I miss her so much!

Yes...More of my favorite "Aunt Grace's" prints.
I made this chubby teddy bear using strips and
    a crazy quilting method.

I thought I better hurry and post this beautiful summer quilt. It is a sample that hangs at my favorite quilt shop"Sew Many Quilts" inBend, Oregon

Thank you for your warm visits and comments.
I appreciate each one of you! Blessings, my sweet friends,Carolynn xoxo
