She Sells Seashells By The Seashore...

We had a custom piece of furniture made for a client's outside entryway made. It is where they come in from the beach, boat, etc. and a great place to display all of their "finds" from the sea. So I was looking for inspiration on how to best display their treasures and found these great ideas on Pinterest...

In jars with the name of the beach you found the shells

Framed out and labeled with their proper name

    Pefectly displayed!

    Like no one else does!

    All grouped together

    In apothecary jars

How do you display your seashells?

Eclectic has been nominated for best interior design blog again this year and if chosen, I win a cash prize (yippie), so please take a second to vote for me here! Many thanks!!!

Who knew there were so many Octopi (is that the plural of Octopus?) design related products out there!?! We are knee deep (get it?) in jellyfish season here since it is so stinkin' hot and yes, this is how my brain works...I know...I know. Give me a break, it is Friday people!

    Have a great weekend!

    Bohemian Chic: Wardrobe

Like I said before, I have not surfed a day in my life but I am a big fan ofthe whole Bohemian Chic look.

Kate Hudson nails the whole "sun dried hair" in which I spend massive amounts of time trying to emulate...

A little of this might help...

    John Masters

Or just go for the sexy braids. Not so much these...

    but these...

We saw an adorable little girl on the beach rocking a do'rag this weekend. Not sure I can pull it off with my Dumbo ears but I am gonna try!

Or maybe just a great hat like this...I love mine!

    J. Crew

And some of this on your body. It is like spritzing on a little subtle Coppertone...the ultimate smell of summer!

    Bobbi Brown

As for a Bohemian beach wardrobe, start with a suit like this...

    J. Crew

    A tunic is a must!

    Rikshaw Designs

    Add some great earrings...

    Dee Ruel

    Some sexy sandals...

    Guinevere

    Nine West

And voila! But forget the hair and clothes, what I really need to do is actually take up surfing
so I can get a body like this...yowza!

    Decorganizing Wednesday: Seashells

To continue with my all beach theme I thought I would give you some tips on organizing and displaying all the seashells that you accumulate over your summer vacations.

    In jars or vases...

In canisters labeled by type of shell or which beach they came from...

It can be done with sand also...

    In glass cloches...

    Along a built-in ledge...

    Or architectural bracket...

    In a decorative bowl...

    Or in a cabinet...

Or just on a shelf or tabletop...

While I am am at it, here are some good coffee table books on seashells.

I have not surfed a day in my life but I am a big fan of the whole Bohemian Chic look both for the home and wardrobe. Check back on Thursday for a post about how to achieve a Bohemian Chic wardrobe.

  • Why Monday...Why???

    Why Monday...Why???

So we spent the weekend pretending we were on vacation. Heavenly! Divine! Glorious! Lucky for us, we live in a coastal town so it was pretty easy to do. And it went a lil' somethin' like this...beach, booze, sleeping in, shirking all responsibility, more beach and more booze well, I think you get the idea. But I wanted to explain my state of mind and the reason for these next few posts actually, all posts this week will be inspired by the beach. So I apologize if you are reading this from a landlocked cubicle because if you are, you might as well start planning a weekend getaway ASAP!

Coastal inspired yumminess! I was in a beautiful home on Sullivan's yesterday that reminded me how much I can't wait to have a house on Sullivan's...I might be waiting a long time on that one. Unless all of you reading (I am hoping there are more than two of you) want to hire me so you can start padding my Sullivan's home savings account. I would be much obliged!

I had my maiden voyage to the beach this weekend. And as expected I now have a crazyass tan. Well, not so much tan as red in some areas and still pasty white in others. I look something like this...

    Yep, it's hot.

  • Mother Shuckers!

    Mother Shuckers!

When I was a kid I remember being at dinner on a family vacation and saying that when I grow up I want to own a restaurant called "Mother Shuckers." My brother almost spit out his she crab soup laughing, my dad beamed with pride while my mom rolled her eyes in embarrassment. Sorry mom! Oyster roasts are common events in Charleston and as much as I love eating them, I also like using them in decor (cleaned up of course). I am all about the R, R, R!

Then the oyster sticks started popping up all over market. These are the pieces of wood in which oyster shells have once been attached. What do you think? I kinda like it but I am biased as I like anything coastal.

  • Driftwood

    Driftwood

I love finding driftwood on the beach! I wonder what its story is- did it come from a broken down dock, or an old shipwreck or perhaps petrified tree from far away? In some areas, driftwood is so plentiful that it can be a nuisance but in actuality, it provides nutrients when decomposed, shelter for wildlife and oftentimes forms the base of sand dunes. Each piece is so unique with its knots and gnarls. Some are bleached out from time in the salt and sun. Regardless or its origin, the sculptural quality of driftwood truly makes it a work of art. Designers have been using driftwood in interiors for years and recently manufactures jumped on board creating lamps, mirrors and furniture out of this natural beauty.
